It’s official now. Walking is her primary mode of movement. She no longer crawls to get around. She can walk the length of the house unaided, although she’s still a bit wobbly at times.

Today she was able to walk just over 2 meters [about 7 feet] unaided. I lost count of the steps, but this was a new distance record for her.

Lucinda is progressing nicely on her walking. The record now stands at ten consecutive steps, and she is able to stand unaided for up to 30 seconds at a time.

Lucinda is very close to walking now. Today, she stood up and took four consecutive steps, traveling about two feet across the floor. She is able to walk pretty well now if she has something to hold on to, but this is the first time she has walked unaided for more than one or two steps.

Another cold. Lucinda went the the pediatrician, and she is now officially 8.2kg (18lb). She also got a prescription for some cough medicine with codeine. We’re hoping that this will help her to sleep better.

Today was Baby’s First Earthquake (www.trinet.org/eqreports/old/16October99-131500.html). Lucinda had woken up to eat at 2:15 this morning, and she went back to sleep at 2:40, just before the earthquake. Fortunately, she slept through the quake, as well as the endless hours of Daddy’s pager going off for the rest of the night.

Another visit to the pediatrician. More shots, so she’s a bit grumpy now. She is now 7.4kg (16lb 4oz) and 65cm (25 1/2in).

Perhaps it was inevitable, but Lucinda got her first cold last weekend. Then she gave it to us, making it our first Family Cold. Yecch.

More shots today. The current numbers are: 6.7kg (14lb 6oz) and 62cm (24 1/4 in). She is still firmly in the middle of the average growth curve.

Lucinda’s first tooth is starting to come in. It’s one of her lower incisors, and it’s just poking out above the gum. The second incisor is just visible through the gums, so it’s not far behind. Needless to say, she’s not terribly pleased about this, but that’s just the way these things go.
